Over October break we went with Kirk's family down to Rocky Point, Mexico. Despite all the horror stories I heard and dreamed about, nobody got kidnapped or any body parts stolen. :)
We stayed at a condo right on the beach. The beach was awesome and was my shell-collecting-girl's dream. The whole beach was made up of sea shells - every size and shape. (Great for collecting, not so great for walking on with bare feet.) They spent hours searching for all the perfect seashells to bring home to make into some craft.

On the last day, we decided to venture out to downtown Rocky Point, to get in our Mexican culture and use our Spanish 101 from junior high (except me - I would have rocked if we went to France). As we were caravaning, Kirk's brother Kade all of the sudden slams on the brakes and skids to a halt. We thought something horrible had happened - but it was just a tarantula sighting. We all stopped to take a look. I tried to get my girls to put their hand down so we could document just how big it was, but we didn't have any takers.
Here we are getting our souvenirs. Lizzie got a "kit-tar" (guitar), Brynn got drums, and Rissa got her cool new shades.

One of the first days there, an old lady and man came along the beach selling crap. They offered to braid all the girls hair for "almost free". The girls thought it was awesome - I had different thoughts.

The condo also had an amazing slew of pools that we spent a lot of time at. It was great because we were one of just five families at the resort, so we had the pool and beach to ourselves all the time. It was great because Kirk and his brothers could be all rowdy, and I didn't have to be embarrassed by them.

We had a great time just hanging out on the patio, playing games together late into the night, and eating way too much junk food (I think four tubs of licorice were brought and consumed on the trip.) Kirk's mom was in heaven with her three favorite things all together at once: her kids, her grandkids, and the beach. Maybe we might even make this a Nielson tradition - depending on how brave we continue to be.

Wow! Unbelievable! Looks like the braided hair should have been an extention of girls camp.
You guys do such fun family trips! That looks like a blast. And the tight corn rows look beautiful...
