I know I'm their mom, but I have to say that the Nielson girls are pretty amazing! I love the end of the school year where many of their accomplishments are noticed, and all that I've been nagging, teaching, and pestering them about is finally rewarded.
Brynn was recognized as a Kid of Character. Each teacher chose one student that throughout the year had shown great character in all they did. Miss B. said that Brynn was always a good helper to her and the other students around her, that she was responsible and could be trusted to do things, like take things to the office, that she was always respectful to the other teachers, and was nice to all around her, even when the teachers weren't around. In my last parent-teacher conference with Miss B., she said that she loved Brynn and her fun personality, and if she ever didn't come home from school, it was because she had taken her home for her own. (On a side note: Miss B. was the greatest kindergarten teacher! She doesn't have kids so she loves each of her kindergartners like her own. She knew how to challenge Brynn and always expected the best, but was the kind, loving teacher you want for your kindergartner!)
I was surprised that she was really embarrassed/shy when they called her up front. She pretended to read her certificate intently, so it covered her face the whole time.
What a great girl!
We maybe had a few feelings of things not being fair by some of the sisters, with Brynn getting all the attention, so a few nights later for FHE, we had an awards night, where each girl gave an award to one of their sisters complimenting them on what they liked best about them.
They are all great girls!
Here's a little known fact: Lizzie is an amazing artist! She loves to draw and color and is constantly using up all my paper making and gluing things together. Some of her art was recently displayed at the school art show. Her favorite picture she drew was the eagle in it's nest. She is a great artist and can draw and replicate things way better than I can! We are so proud of her!
Noelle was also rewarded for her hard work. She made Principal's List! (I thought that was a bad thing, but it's when you get straight A's on your report card.) She also got the Star Student Award from her teacher for being a great student, working hard on her school work, and being kind to everyone around her. Also, one more thing of note about Noelle: she is a 6th grade representative! Their school doesn't have specific offices for elementary grades (like Pres., etc.), so they elect four representatives. She campaigned and ran against eight other kids, and in the end the candy, campaign stickers, and awesome speech paid off and she was elected!
Also please note: Marissa also made Principal's List, but for some unknown reason didn't get her picture taken. Maybe it was because she always makes Principal's list, so it's such old news we don't even recognize her anymore. :) Yay Riss!
Marissa and Noelle had their end of the school year piano recital. They had been practicing hard to master their hard songs. Noelle played "Medallion" from Pirates of the Caribbean and Marissa played "Linus and Lucy" the theme song from Charlie Brown, and Homeward Bound. They are amazing! Here they are with their awesome piano teacher, Rachelle.
And to end it all, Dad even got an award! Liz honored him with a poem about how great he is and a amazing trophy at her Dad's Ice Cream Social in her class. Yay Dad!
