Over Labor Day we had some time to kill, Summer Reading vouchers to use, and a family activity that we hadn't done for August yet. So, we made a fun weekend out of it. We started out by going to Peter Piper Pizza's on Saturday to use the free pizza and token coupons the girls had gotten for summer reading. From the time I ordered the pizza to when the pizza was ready, the older girls had already blown through their 25 tokens and had enough tickets to buy a starburst or two. Lizzie was a little luckier and somehow won the jackpot on the wheel of fortune game. She stood there shocked, then danced a jig while the winning lights and sirens went off, and the machine spit out 1000 tickets!! Talk about winning!! She had the hardest time at the ticket counter deciding what lame prize to get. Brynn was totally happy with her 15 ticket sheriff badge she got.
On Monday we went to the Sea Life Aquarium at AZ Mills mall. This had been one of our planned August family activities, and we had gotten free admission tickets from the summer reading program too. My girls were excited, and Lizzie had even asked how long we could stay, wanting to stay until it closed, or midnight if possible. I think they had visions of Sea World in their heads.
The aquarium was cool-ish. There were a ton of fish. There was also a sea turtle. But not much else.
We circled through the aquarium in about 45 minutes, then asked if the girls wanted to go through again, or see anything again. Nope, we had all had our fill of fishes for the day. So all in all, it was great because it was mostly free, but I don't think we'll be heading back again soon.
After that, the girls also had 30 minute vouchers to GameWorks, also courtesy of Summer Reading. So we headed over there to play some video games. That was also kinda a bust. They couldn't use their vouchers for any of the carnival-type games like skeeball or air hockey, only the actual video games, which were mostly either driving or shooting games. But the girls had fun and got to be great drivers in that 30 minutes.
After that we completed our day of fun by eating at ACE's Chinese Food, a sketchy Chinese place in Mesa that Kirk's dad frequents. It was fairly yummy and fairly safe, and nobody got food poisoning or anything like I thought would happen. But the trip to super QT at the end of the day to get ice cream cones and blizzards was definitely the highlight for me!
