The end of the school year has finally come! With this came all sorts of end of the year fun: science projects, animal and book reports, spelling tests with 500 words, and recorder and piano concerts. I think teachers do this all at once to really make moms excited for summer when we don't have to nag our kids anymore (about school stuff at least).
Like we got to endure/enjoy last year, the 4th graders got to learn the recorder from their music teacher. They have been doing "Recorder Karate", where as they learned increasingly difficult songs, they earned different belts or ribbons for their recorder. Imagine my pride as Noelle showed off her black belt skills at the recorder concert!
Noelle loved playing the recorder (much to my chagrin) and even got so good that she and Marissa would play duets, with Noelle on the recorder and Marissa on the piano. Can you think of anything less annoying?
Gotta love it though!

Alyson, if you feel you had to endure/enjoy the recorder experience, please think of that poor music teacher. In a room with 25-30 kids who all have a recorder.(And believe me, they're not all black belts like Noelle!) And there's probably 3-4 classes of that. 2 times a week. Kill me.
Your girls are so beautiful and talented!
The karate belt recorder idea is so brilliant! Is that a standard thing, or do you have an exceptional music teacher? Noelle's black belt status is very impressive. :)
I feel the same way about the end of the school year! What a relief when it finally comes!
Leona would be so proud of all the musical accomplishments going on in your family, even Brynn who didn't get any "music" recital time, awards or belts. I am so grateful to teachers who stimulate kids in such a good way and after a week of summer vacation, is there anyone who would really consider home schooling? I agree with Marie. The girls are beautiful and talented.
