The Nielson Six: Upd8

So, it's been a while. It seems like the last few weeks have been crazy busy with not a moment to spare. I thought I'd do a quick update on the fam so I can remember what's been going on.

1. ASU game

This was our first game all together with our girls. It was so much fun! We got seats way up high, which the girls thought was awesome! I wasn't sure I agreed when each girl had to go to the bathroom at different times, and since they're all girls Kirk "couldn't" take them and I had to hike up the 35 rows of stairs a million times.

Marissa and Noelle pretended they knew what was going on and cared about the game. Liz and Brynn didn't care at all about the game, but as long as they had some candy, could see Sparky, or there were fireworks they loved it.
Kirk loved having two of his favorites (his girls and ASU football) all together in one.

2. Noelle was Citizen of the Month

Noelle was nominated by her teacher as the citizen of the month for her school. Each school picks one student that has shown excellent citizenship at their school to get the award. She was awarded at a town council meeting by the Mayor.

(I know I shouldn't include this but, this all happened just a week or so after she got an award for being on the Honor Roll. I wasn't able to go to see her get her award, since she told me about it at 10:00 the night before. She was devastated and said that that was probably going to be the only award that she ever got, and that I was missing it. Good thing it wasn't. :))

Here's the group of good kids from all the schools in our city.

Noelle's teacher Mrs. Feddick and student teacher Mrs. Fowler said that they totally love Noelle in their class and wish all the kids could take lessons from her. She always is volunteering to check papers, clean the classroom, or help them or other any other teachers with any work she can. She is a hard worker with her schoolwork and tries her best at everything she does. She is a good friend to everybody around her too.

And isn't she cute too?!
Way to go Noelle!! We are so proud of you!

3. Brynn got stitches

I got a call from the school nurse at the end of the day saying that Brynn had fallen on the slide on the playground and had cut her chin open. I'm super squeamish about this kind of stuff, and even though it wasn't even bleeding when I got there, it totally grossed me out.

(I love her messy face and booger nose here.) We took her to our family doctor who is a good friend. She had to get three stitches. He doesn't do a ton of stitches, so he was sweating and shaking super bad, so it's a miracle they turned out so well. The worst part was definitely numbing it up!

4. Kirk hiked Flat Iron

Kirk and his friend David hiked to the top of Flat Iron, which is the tallest peak of the Superstition Mountains. He said the view from the top was amazing.

He said that for the last couple miles it's totally straight up, and you're basically scaling the rock, climbing up the mountain. He was crazy sore for the next several days!

He thought he was pretty hot stuff and that maybe he could further his modeling career with sexy pictures on the rock. :)

5. Lizzie's broken arm

I guess when I wake up to my kids doing this kind of stuff, I should just expect it to turn out badly. Later this day, Liz fell when she was on her scooter and landed on her arm. She came in screaming, so we knew something was definitely wrong. We took her to urgent care where they took an x-ray, but couldn't really tell anything. They said that we "might" want to take her to see an orthopedic doctor the next day.

Well we couldn't get in to see the specialist for a couple days, but when we went, they took one look at the x-ray and said that yep, it was broken, and that it was broken bad! She broke the bottom part of her humerus bone, and then the bone had shifted. She needed immediate surgery to have pins put in her elbow. The doctors we worked with and all the hospital staff were absolutely amazing, and did a great job, and totally put me at ease. Lizzie was a super brave girl through the whole thing, and now can beat everybody in arm wrestling, or at least beat you with her arm as you're wrestling.

We just went and got her hard cast put on, and guess what color she got?! Glow-in-the-dark!! (We had family pics last weekend, so I had tried to get her to choose a color that would match, or that would be inconspicuous, or at least hide dirt well. But when he mentioned glow-in-the-dark, everything else was forgotten.)
