For Memorial Day we went camping with some friends from our ward. We went up above Payson, Pine and Strawberry. We were pretty high in elevation, which made for crazy cold 26 degree nights. Some of the guys that we were meeting there work with Kirk in scouts, so instead of "real" directions, they just gave him GPS coordinates. Unfortunately, Kirk's GPS skills still need a little work, so we spent about 45 minutes driving on small, rough, back roads through the forest. We did enjoy the scenic drive though.
Camping is great! The families that went all had such great kids that played so well together! They would take off to discover or build or play and we wouldn't see or hear them for what seemed like forever!
Liz and Haylee played "hotel" on their special log here, and even let Brynn and Emma come and stay at their hotel for the small price of a handful or two of fruit snacks.
I was happy to hold Brynn when it was so cold, just to try and stay warm!
Marissa and Noelle got to bring their friends Lauryn and Maddie. They were all so much fun and were continually laughing and telling us just how funny they were. Marissa in her infinite teenage wisdom thought that she was pretty tough, so she didn't need to follow the advice of her mom to pack warm. So she had to rely on the goodness of those around her to keep warm. Needless to say, she froze her buns off the first really cold night.
The guys had a continual horseshoe game going.
Some of the little kids found a bunch of animal bones on one of their adventures (gross!) and brought them back to "sell". You could hear them yelling "Bones for Sale!!" loud and clear all through the forest.
Brynn also spent a fair amount of time making fairy houses.
One of the funnest things was the softball game. The girls, moms, and somehow Kirk too, were all on the team "Glitter Bombs" and we totally rocked the guys.

The kids also spent a lot of time playing games. Apples to Apples was the favorite, but Spot It, Boggle and just plain old coloring were also hits.
We also went shooting one afternoon, which we had never done. The girls all took a turn of different guns and were very brave. Marissa shot the great big shotgun and hit clay pigeons (that were stuck in a tree) and Liz was a sharpshooter with the BB guns.
So much fun!! Even though I swore in the middle of the freezing night that I would NEVER camp again, I think I've forgotten the bad and I'm ready to go again!

Playing hotel, making forts and fairy houses, Glitter Bombs (that's just hilarious), Bones for Sale, games, freezing cold, camping food all bring bragging rights. Thanks for making memories with your kids! Be careful with the guns-- you might shoot your eye out, or worse yet, start a fire. Apparently 2/3 of the wildfires in Utah right now have been started by target practicing. Go figure. So glad you guys are willing to sacrifice and freeze for your kids experiences.
That looks like so much fun! Wish we could come too. I love that you are still doing your blog, you are one of my most favorite people. In fact, anytime I want to smile I think of your comment on my Maple Syrup post about the Indian and sticky fun. It makes me laugh out loud everytime! Glad to see life is still good.
